Check out our Wacom Intuos. Touch article for a more in- depth review. Why use a pen tablet instead of a mouse. Working with a tablet is faster and more efficient than with a mouse. Your hand can travel from point to point on the screen in a single movement instead of repeated slides, as with a conventional mouse. Download Drivers, download Tablets, download Wacom, wide range of software, drivers and games to download for free. Editors' Note: The Download Now link will take you to the Wacon downloads site, where you must choose your tablet model and your OS version to download the software. It also allows more natural input for activities such as drawing and photo retouching. Having pressure sensitivity is very handy and most graphic programs can benefit from this input. Touching the tip of the pen on the tablet surface is the equivalent of a click, and the pressure (plus tilt, in more feature- rich models) can be used to vary stroke width, opacity, effect intensity, and other attributes. There are two buttons on the pen and either can be programmed for right click or other commands. Holding a pen is also much more ergonomic than using a mouse, and most users with repetitive strain injury (RSI) or tendonitis suffer less pain when using a tablet. TABLET PC – Enhanced Tablet Driver (Read Me) Expand the capabilities of your tablet computer with the enhanced tablet driver for systems that use. Free Download Wacom Cintiq 21UX Tablet Driver 6.3.14-1 (Tablets). In my personal case, it completely cured a chronic pain I had in my right wrist. Working with a mouse requires repetitive muscle movements while the rest of the hand keeps still, creating uneven muscle fatigue. A pen, on the other hand, allows you to work in a more relaxed position and eliminates the forearm twisting that strains muscles and tendons. At the end of the day, it feels much more natural and relaxed. Areas in which tablets don't work so well. There are a few areas in which tablets are not the ideal input devices. Most games don't work very well with pen input, as their interfaces were originally designed for mouse control. Think about controlling a first person shooter with a pen. It definitely makes little sense. In the architectural and engineering fields, there's a split: some users love it, some hate it, mostly because the mouse scroll wheel is very handy for zooming in and out on programs like Autodesk Auto. CAD and Wacom tablets have that feature on the tablet surface, requiring putting the pen aside to use it. Pressure sensitivity is also ignored in those programs, neglecting one of the tablet's main features. On the other hand, the more ergonomic position and programmable buttons could more than make up for it. Will touch devices kill pen tablets? I doubt it. Without a major exercise in user interface design, my feeling is that we won't be able to achieve the necessary drawing precision with bare fingers to replace tablets. The two technologies are complementary and all new Wacom tablets already incorporate touch gestures. This gives us the best of both worlds: bare finger touch and gestures for quick window transitions, icon and menu selections, with a pen for more precise actions where pinpoint accuracy and especially pressure sensitivity are indispensable. Which tablet should I get? Go Wacom, ignore the others. If you choose to buy a graphic tablet, invest in a Wacom model. There are some cheaper alternatives, but none of them has the same ubiquitous driver support, software integration, precision, and reliability as Wacom. No wonder they have over 8. Wacom pens use patented electromagnetic resonance technology, so they don't need batteries or any wires to function, reducing maintenance and weight for a more natural pen feel. Tablet size and resolution vs. The smaller the tablet surface, the less hand movement will be necessary to move the cursor on the screen. Having a tablet too small for your screen leads to a jumpy cursor and makes fine selections too difficult. A tablet too big for your screen feels slow, requiring too much hand movement, and may tire your arm muscles quicker. Tablet resolution is also a factor. Wacom has two lines of tablets, Intuos and Intuos Pro. The former has half the resolution of the flagship Intuos Pro line and this difference may be very noticeable, depending on your screen size. Given the same tablet size, the higher the resolution, the bigger the screen that can be used comfortably with it. Bigger tablets, such as the 8. If you are an illustrator and you are used to drawing with very long strokes, a larger drawing area may be necessary. For dual display use, keep in mind that the overall screen proportion is much more horizontal than the tablet itself. Through the system preferences configuration panel, the tablet can be set up for different screen mappings, single screen mode or screen switching with a hotkey. The most natural way, in my opinion, is to keep the screen proportion exactly the same as the tablet surface.

The relationship between religion and science has been a subject of study since classical antiquity, addressed by philosophers, theologians, scientists, and others. Perspectives from different geographical regions, cultures and historical epochs are diverse, with some characterizing the relationship as one of conflict, others describing it as one of harmony, and others proposing little interaction. Science acknowledges reason, empiricism, and evidence, while religions include revelation, faith and sacredness whilst also acknowledging philosophical and metaphysical explanations with regard to the study of the universe. Both science and religion are complex social and cultural endeavors that vary across cultures and have changed over time. Elements of the scientific method were pioneered by ancient pagan, Islamic, and Christian scholars. During the Islamic Golden Age foundations for the scientific method were laid by Ibn al- Haytham. Confucian thought has held different views of science over time. Most Buddhists today view science as complementary to their beliefs. While the classification of the material world by the ancient Indians and Greeks into air, earth, fire and water was more philosophical, medieval Middle Easterns used practical and experimental observation to classify materials. This thesis is held by some contemporary scientists such as Richard Dawkins, Steven Weinberg and Carl Sagan, and some creationists. While the conflict thesis remains popular for the public, it has lost favor among most contemporary historians of science. Miller and Francis Collins, have seen compatibility or independence between religion and science. Biologist Stephen Jay Gould, other scientists, and some contemporary theologians hold that religion and science are non- overlapping magisteria, addressing fundamentally separate forms of knowledge and aspects of life. Some theologians or historians of science, including John Lennox, Thomas Berry, Brian Swimme and Ken Wilber propose an interconnection between science and religion, while others such as Ian Barbour believe there are even parallels. Public acceptance of scientific facts may be influenced by religion; many in the United States reject evolution by natural selection, especially regarding human beings. Nevertheless, the American National Academy of Sciences has written that . Even in the 1. 9th century, a treatise by Lord Kelvin and Peter Guthrie Tait's, which helped define much of modern physics, was titled Treatise on Natural Philosophy (1. It was in the 1. 7th century that the concept of . Throughout classical South Asia, the study of law consisted of concepts such as penance through piety and ceremonial as well as practical traditions. Medieval Japan at first had a similar union between . It teaches people to be satisfied with trivial, supernatural non- explanations and blinds them to the wonderful real explanations that we have within our grasp. It teaches them to accept authority, revelation and faith instead of always insisting on evidence. Because of this both are incompatible as currently practiced and the debate of compatibility or incompatibility will be eternal. Stenger's view is that science and religion are incompatible due to conflicts between approaches of knowing and the availability of alternative plausible natural explanations for phenomena that is usually explained in religious contexts. According to Dawkins, religion . Carroll, since religion makes claims that are not compatible with science, such as supernatural events, and therefore both are incompatible. Miller, George Coyne and Francisco J. Ayala argue for compatibility since they do not agree that science is incompatible with religion and vice versa. They argue that science provides many opportunities to look for and find God in nature and to reflect on their beliefs. What he finds particularly odd and unjustified is in how atheists often come to invoke scientific authority on their non- scientific philosophical conclusions like there being no point or no meaning to the universe as the only viable option when the scientific method and science never have had any way of addressing questions of meaning or God in the first place. Furthermore, he notes that since evolution made the brain and since the brain can handle both religion and science, there is no natural incompatibility between the concepts at the biological level. He argues that leaders in science sometimes trump older scientific baggage and that leaders in theology do the same, so once theological intellectuals are taken into account, people who represent extreme positions like Ken Ham and Eugenie Scott will become irrelevant. It was in the 1. 9th century that relationship between science and religion became an actual formal topic of discourse, while before this no one had pitted science against religion or vice versa, though occasional complex interactions had been expressed before the 1. If Galileo and the Scopes trial come to mind as examples of conflict, they were the exceptions rather than the rule. By 1. 61. 6 Galileo went to Rome to try to persuade Catholic Church authorities not to ban Copernicus' ideas. In the end, a decree of the Congregation of the Index was issued, declaring that the ideas that the Sun stood still and that the Earth moved were . Galileo was found . He was required to . The Church had merely sided with the scientific consensus of the time. Pope Urban VIII asked that his own views on the matter be included in Galileo's book. Only the latter was fulfilled by Galileo. Whether unknowingly or deliberately, Simplicio, the defender of the Aristotelian/Ptolemaic geocentric view in Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, was often portrayed as an unlearned fool who lacked mathematical training. Although the preface of his book claims that the character is named after a famous Aristotelian philosopher (Simplicius in Latin, Simplicio in Italian), the name . Most historians agree Galileo did not act out of malice and felt blindsided by the reaction to his book. Galileo had alienated one of his biggest and most powerful supporters, the Pope, and was called to Rome to defend his writings. Stace viewed independence from the perspective of the philosophy of religion. Stace felt that science and religion, when each is viewed in its own domain, are both consistent and complete. In science, explanations must be based on evidence drawn from examining the natural world. Scientifically based observations or experiments that conflict with an explanation eventually must lead to modification or even abandonment of that explanation. Religious faith, in contrast, does not depend on empirical evidence, is not necessarily modified in the face of conflicting evidence, and typically involves supernatural forces or entities. Because they are not a part of nature, supernatural entities cannot be investigated by science. In this sense, science and religion are separate and address aspects of human understanding in different ways. Attempts to put science and religion against each other create controversy where none needs to exist. He views science as descriptive and religion as prescriptive. He stated that if science and mathematics concentrate on what the world ought to be, in the way that religion does, it may lead to improperly ascribing properties to the natural world as happened among the followers of Pythagoras in the sixth century B. C. Habgood also stated that he believed that the reverse situation, where religion attempts to be descriptive, can also lead to inappropriately assigning properties to the natural world. A notable example is the now defunct belief in the Ptolemic (geocentric) planetary model that held sway until changes in scientific and religious thinking were brought about by Galileo and proponents of his views. Kuhn asserted that science is made up of paradigms that arise from cultural traditions, which is similar to the secular perspective on religion. Favorite books for 4th graders. GOP Data Firm Accidentally Leaks Personal Details of Nearly 2. Million American Voters. Political data gathered on more than 1. US citizens was exposed this month after a marketing firm contracted by the Republican National Committee stored internal documents on a publicly accessible Amazon server. The data leak contains a wealth of personal information on roughly 6. US population. Along with home addresses, birthdates, and phone numbers, the records include advanced sentiment analyses used by political groups to predict where individual voters fall on hot- button issues such as gun ownership, stem cell research, and the right to abortion, as well as suspected religious affiliation and ethnicity. Welcome to the official store for BlackBerry World. Discover new apps, games, music and videos to buy or download for free. The data was amassed from a variety of sources—from the banned subreddit r/fatpeoplehate to American Crossroads, the super PAC co- founded by former White House strategist Karl Rove. Guard cyber risk analyst Chris Vickery discovered Deep Root’s data online last week. More than a terabyte was stored on the cloud server without the protection of a password and could be accessed by anyone who found the URL. Many of the files did not originate at Deep Root, but are instead the aggregate of outside data firms and Republican super PACs, shedding light onto the increasingly advanced data ecosystem that helped propel President Donald Trump’s slim margins in key swing states. Although files possessed by Deep Root would be typical in any campaign, Republican or Democratic, experts say its exposure in a single open database raises significant privacy concerns. What’s more, the Kantar files each contain video links to related political ads stored on Kantar’s servers. ![]() Spreadsheets acquired from Target. Point, which partnered with Deep Root and GOP Data Trust during the 2. Target. Point’s data seeks to resolve questions about where individual voters stand on dozens of political issues. For example: Is the voter eco- friendly? Do they favor lowering taxes? Do they believe the Democrats should stand up to Trump? Do they agree with Trump’s “America First” economic stance? Pharmaceutical companies do great damage: Agree or Disagree? The details of voters’ likely preferences for issues like stem cell research and gun control were likely drawn from a variety of sources according to a Democratic strategist who spoke with Gizmodo.“Data like that would be a combination of polling data, real world data from door- knocking and phone- calling and other canvassing activities, coupled with modeling using the data we already have to extrapolate what the voters we don’t know about would think,” the strategist said. Deep Root has retained Stroz Friedberg, a cybersecurity and digital forensics firm, to investigate. He used the same process last month to detect sensitive files tied to a US Defense Department project and exposed by an employee of a top defense contractor. This is not the first leak of voter files uncovered by Vickery, who told Gizmodo that he was alarmed over how the data was apparently being used—some states, for instance, prohibit the commercial use of voter records. Moreover, it was not immediately clear to whom the data belonged. In an email to Gizmodo, Deep Root said that its voter models are used to enhance the understanding of TV viewership for political ad buyers. Deep Root also works primarily with GOP customers (although similar vendors, such as Nation. Builder, service the Democrats as well). Deep Root is one of three data firms hired by the Republican National Committee in the run- up to the 2. Founded by Lundry, a data scientist on the Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney campaigns, the firm was one of three analytics teams that worked on the Trump campaign following the party’s national convention in the summer of 2. Lundry’s work brought him into Trump’s campaign war room, according to a post- election Ad. Age article that charted the GOP’s 2. Deep Root was hand- picked by the RNC’s then- chief of staff, Katie Walsh, in September of last year and joined two other data shops—Target. Point Consulting and Causeway Solutions—in the effort to win Trump the presidency. Walsh, who now works for the nonprofit America First Policies after a brief stint in the White House, oversaw Trump’s data operation in partnership with Brad Parscale, Trump’s digital director. Attempts to reach Walsh for comment were also unsuccessful.) Walsh and Parscale focused their efforts on three categories of voters, Ad. Age reports: voters who might be predisposed to support Trump, Republican voters who were uncertain about Trump, and voters that were leaning toward Hillary Clinton but could be persuaded by Trump’s message of changing up government- as- usual. To appeal to the three crucial categories, it appears that Trump’s team relied on voter data provided by Data Trust. Complete voter rolls for 2. Florida and Ohio, apparently compiled by Data Trust are contained in the dataset exposed by Deep Root. Data Trust acquires voter rolls from state officials and then standardizes the voter data to create a clean, manageable record of all registered US voters, a source familiar with the firm’s operations told Gizmodo. Voter data itself is public record and therefore not particularly sensitive, the source added, but the tools Data Trust uses to standardize that data are considered proprietary. That data is then provided to political clients, including analytics firms like Deep Root. While Data Trust requires its clients to protect the data, it has to take clients at their word that industry- standard encryption and security protocols are in place. Target. Point and Causeway, the two firms employed by the RNC in addition to Deep Root, apparently layered their own analytics atop the information provided by Data Trust. Target. Point conducted thousands of surveys per week in 2. Ad. Age, gauging voter sentiment on a variety of topics. While Causeway helped manage the data, Deep Root used it to perfect its TV advertising targets—producing voter turnout estimates by county and using that intelligence to target its ad buys. A source with years of experience working on political campaign data operations told Gizmodo that the data exposed by Deep Root appeared to be customized for the RNC and had apparently been used to create models for turnout and voter preferences. Metadata in the files suggested that the database wasn’t Deep Root’s working copy, but rather a post- election version of its data, the source said, adding that it was somewhat surprising the files hadn’t been discarded. Because the data from the 2. Even the 2. 01. 6 data is quickly becoming stale. Many of filenames indicate they potentially contain market research on Democratic candidates and the independent expenditure committees that support them. Divided by state, the files include the voters’ names and addresses, along with a unique RNC identification number assigned to every US citizen registered to vote. Each row indicates where voters likely fall on issues of interest to Exxon. Mobil, the country’s biggest natural gas producer. Double-click the downloaded file to install the software. The best part of that was the burgers and beers! The worst part was having to spend 4. Australia to the US and back. Or so I thought. Even a couple of years ago, the thought of spending that long on an aircraft would have filled me with a sense of impending dread. I’d have split my time jiggling an audio cable to maintain the busted audio in my armrest, trying and failing to sleep and playing some janky- ass Civ on my ancient laptop, waiting seven minutes between turns. This time things were different and I had a blast, all because I had a Nintendo Switch with me. And, to get around the device’s battery limitations, I was flying both ways on a Qantas A- 3. This is a situation where the Switch’s USB C port came into its own. I’ve got a Pixel XL phone—my phones are my other long haul mainstay, thanks to podcasts—which also has USB C, which meant that instead of bringing a bunch of proprietary chargers and cables with me onto the plane, I only had to bring the one cord that I could share between devices (and which could rapidly charge both). On the initial 1. Sydney to LA, I had the Switch plugged in, and so could play as long as I liked. On the shorter five- hour flight from LAX to JFK, where I had moved to a 7. USB ports in the arm rests weren’t powerful enough to juice the Switch), it still lasted around three hours thanks to a dimmed screen and reduced battery usage of aeroplane mode. From a pure hardware perspective, the coming together of airline convenience and console technology, that’s impressive. But what constantly struck me while playing the game on an aeroplane was that I wasn’t just playing a portable video game. I’ve done that plenty of times, and even the best of them have concessions: they’re relatively simple, or have downgraded visuals, or are re- releases of games you played on a console years ago, you know the deal. But here I was playing one of the best console video games of 2. It was here, in my hands, uncompromised and in all its glory. Every hour or two I’d just sit back and marvel at the wonder of it. I was sitting in a metal tube halfway across the Pacific playing Breath of the Wild and it was as perfect and gorgeous as it was on my 5. Packing something as convenient and universal as USB 3. I think really made the difference here. I think I played Zelda for around 6- 7 hours on both of the longer 1. I wasn’t just dicking around for a bit before my battery died, but could really sink my teeth in and get a lot of stuff done. I’ve had a Switch since launch, but have mostly spent that time playing on my couch, because when you work from home and don’t have a daily commute, that’s the only place you tend to play games. So I’d never tested or appreciated the portable benefits of the console. Going from one extreme to the other, and with my last handheld experiences being the technically weak (relative to everything else in this conversation, at least) Nintendo 3. DS and the poor little Play. Station Vita, I just wasn’t prepared for the leap. It’s changed my entire way of looking at the Switch. I’d previously seen its portability as a nice little bonus, something I’d use occasionally if I ever caught the train or was spending the weekend away. Now I wonder how long the 3. DS has left, because it was no harder putting my Switch in a case (well, a sock) and throwing it in a bag than it was a 3. DS. Only here I was playing full, proper console games. It’s also changed the way I approach long trips! Like I said up top, I usually hate travel, because in my mind I’m always obsessing over the amount of time left until my destination, which usually leaves me feeling somewhere between restless and downright irritable. With a long, proper game to sink my teeth into here, that was suddenly no longer a concern. I was 1. 00% devoted to exploring Hyrule, and where previously I’d have watched minutes tick by in agony, entire hours melted away as I explored shrines and overcame Guardians. About the only thing I didn’t like about playing on a plane was that the Switch’s first trailer had lied to us. It showed a man playing Skyrim on a flight with the Switch’s main unit resting on his tray table while he played with detached Joy- Cons. After a couple of hours of playing Zelda with the whole Switch in my hands I wanted to try that out so I could rest my arms, but found that while the console was in Aeroplane mode it was unable to communicate with detached Joy- Con, and so my only option was to play with the controllers on. Hardly a deal- breaker, I know, but still a weird thing to come across considering how important that feature had been in the initial trailer. UPDATE: I am told you can play like this if you dig down into the settings once aeroplane mode is enabled! Carry on, Nintendo and your advertising partners. I’m not saying this is my first substantive experience playing video games on a plane. I’ve had plenty of fun playing everything from Civ to Fire Emblem to Persona 4 on other long flights. But I am saying that this is easily the best experience I’ve had playing video games on a plane. And that was me, playing Zelda the whole time, alone. Imagine if I’d sat next to someone with a copy of Mario Kart.. |
